Reserve Maxwell Cabernet
Wine
Narkoojee Reserve Maxwell Cabernet, named after the grandson of winery founders Val and Harry Friend, is sourced from estate plantings at Glengarry in central Gippsland.
The vineyard is a little drier, warmer and sunnier than other parts of the region. This allows the Cabernet to ripen properly – often a struggle in cool climate areas.
The fruit is crushed and fermented with wild yeasts, in smaller vessels where possible to allow for hand plunging rather than pumping over. Post ferment the wine is pressed and racked to oak barrels for 18-24 months of maturation.
Deep red purple, Narkoojee Reserve Maxwell Cabernet has black fruit flavours with cedary oak, fine tannins and a long finish. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
